New 2016 Ford Transit at Milnes Ford for Imlay City, MI

Ford Transit provides professional tradesmen and fleet customers with innovative new configurations and leading versatility in an expanding commercial vehicle market. The 2016 Ford Transit Van now offers a rearview camera with tow-hitch assist as standard equipment, while an optional Sync 3 infotainment system replaces the much-maligned MyFord Touch system. Dual sliding side doors are newly available for the full model year. Ford now also offers auxiliary fuse panels and a single absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery as options to meet the additional power requirements of van upfitters. SYNC® 3, Ford's new communications and entertainment system, is available for 2016 Ford Transit - making America's best-selling van even smarter.

Under the Transit's Hood

The base engine in the 2016 Ford Transit Van is a 3.7-liter V6 which delivers 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. All Transit Vans are rear-wheel drive and come equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with Ford's SelectShift manual mode. Upgrades include the 3.2-liter Power Stroke® five-cylinder common-rail turbo diesel - based on Ford's proven global diesel engine architecture - features state-of-the-art fuel, turbo and emissions systems that meet stringent U.S. clean diesel standards. For maximum capability, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost® has proven to be a trusted workhorse - whether you are carrying materials to a job site or towing a trailer with Transit's optional hitch. EcoBoost provides best-in-class maximum gasoline engine torque of 400 lb.-ft. Each engine is given a six-speed automatic transmission for a more efficient rear-wheel-drive operation. Payloads and towing capacities vary with each model, ranging from 2,740 pounds to 4,560 pounds for payload and from 4,200 pounds to 7,500 pounds for towing when properly equipped. Both engines offer an average of 16 mpg.

Design of Ford Transit

A rearview camera is standard on all 2016 van and wagon models, as is a front dome lamp with map lights and theater dimming. With Transit, the power of choice goes beyond powertrain options to encompass multiple lengths and roof heights to provide full-size van buyers with the precise configuration they require. The high-roof van features 81.5 inches of interior cargo height - enough headroom for a person up to 6 feet, 4 inches tall to stand upright in the cargo area. The medium-roof model offers as much as 72 inches of cargo height, while the low-roof model has nearly 57 inches to provide an ideal combination of payload management, upfit readiness and garageability. The interior has been designed for easy upfit of racks, bins, shelving and other cargo storage and hauling solutions. The largest version can carry as many as 15 people.

The first thing drivers will notice is that the 2016 Ford Transit Van handles the road in a way no truck-based van could ever hope to match. The steering responds easily and acts more like a family car than a full-size truck. A relatively tight turning circle is another welcome attribute of the Transit. Well-managed road and wind noise make the Transit's cabin quieter than normal for full-size vans. All Transit Vans have stability control, antilock brakes and frontal, side curtain and front side-impact airbags and a newly offered rearview camera as standard equipment. Rear parking sensors and a lane-departure warning system are options; note that the latter is included with the all new Sync 3 infotainment upgrade.
