Manager’s Used Vehicle Specials: Lance’s Test Drives Picks of the Week

Hi, it’s Lance from Milnes Ford.

I got the keys to a few of our manager’s used vehicle specials this week, and let me tell you — this is a fun little lineup.

One is cute. One is strong. One has enough room for the whole pack.

So naturally, I had to test drive all three.

I had to start with this one because, come on… it is a black 2019 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible, and it is cute as heck.

This is not the vehicle you buy because you want to blend in. This is the vehicle you buy because you want to actually enjoy driving.

The minute I saw it, I thought, “Yep. This one is going to make somebody smile.”

Put the top down, take it through Lapeer, head out for ice cream, cruise to dinner or make your weekend errands feel a little more exciting. This Beetle Convertible is just plain fun.

Next up, I jumped into the 2023 Ford F-150 XLT.

Well… as much as a basset hound “jumps” into anything.

This one felt exactly like a truck should.

Solid. Comfortable. Capable. Ready to work.

The F-150 is popular around Michigan for a reason. People use these trucks for work, projects, towing, hauling, road trips, daily driving and pretty much everything in between.

This XLT gives you that Ford truck confidence without having to buy brand new.

It is the kind of truck that looks right pulling into a job site Monday morning and still feels perfectly comfortable taking the family out Saturday night.

And if somebody happens to drop a French fry between the seats, I consider that an added feature.

Then I climbed into this 2017 Ford Expedition EL XLT, and I immediately realized something:

There is room in here for everybody.

And I mean everybody.

Kids. Dogs. Grandkids. Friends. Hockey bags. Camping gear. Groceries. Luggage. Coolers.

Probably another basset hound or two.

This Expedition EL has three rows of seating with room for up to eight passengers, so this is the pick for the family that has officially outgrown the smaller SUV. It also has the extended-length EL body, which means you get that extra cargo room behind the third row.

These three are so different that I cannot really pick just one.

Actually, I can.

But apparently I am not allowed to take the Beetle home.

So, here is how I see it.

If you want fun, look at the 2019 Beetle Convertible.

If you want strength and everyday capability, look at the 2023 F-150 XLT.

If you need three rows, 4WD and serious family room, look at the 2017 Expedition EL XLT.
