Tech Ed Students Gifted Ford Beauty

Donated Ford Mustang “Drop Top” Becomes a Learning Tool

Automotive students at the Lapeer County Education and Technology Center received a generous donation of a 2024 Ford Mustang GT last week. This vehicle will serve as an invaluable educational tool, helping students master the mechanics of the latest automotive technology.

Excitement filled the air as a 2024 Ford Mustang GT rolled into the shop at the Lapeer County Education and Technology Center (Ed-Tech)’s Automotive Program. The students were thrilled to see the state-of-the-art vehicle, which will allow them to explore the latest technological advancements in the automotive industry.

For many students aspiring to careers in the automotive field, working on a brand-new vehicle presents a unique learning opportunity. The Mustang will offer these students hands-on experience with modern vehicle repair, contrasting sharply with older cars they might be more familiar with. This practical exposure is crucial for understanding the intricacies of today’s automotive technology.

This remarkable donation was made possible through the efforts of Ford Motor Company and facilitated by Blake Milnes, General Manager of Milnes Ford in Lapeer, alongside Brian Wright, Technical Placement Specialist at Ford. Wright reached out to Milnes to explore ways to support local educational programs, and together they decided to donate the Mustang.

The donation is part of Ford’s ACE (Automotive Career Exploration) Program, a dealer-sponsored initiative designed to raise awareness and interest in career opportunities within the automotive industry. The program encourages students to consider careers as service technicians at Ford or Lincoln dealerships. ACE is a partnership between Ford Motor Company, Ford/Lincoln dealerships, and secondary and post-secondary educational institutions.

In addition to the Mustang, Milnes Ford also donated a 2014 Ford Focus to the program, with a 2024 Ford Escape expected to follow this fall. “Anything we can do to help the community,” said Blake Milnes.

Ed-Tech Principal Tony Najor expressed his gratitude, noting that in his 19 years at the school, he had “never seen a donation of this magnitude” in any program. “We’re so fortunate for our partners at Ford Motor Company and Milnes Ford. We can’t say ‘thank you’ enough; it’s truly a wonderful donation,” he said. “This is the power of the Lapeer County community.”

More than 40 students at Ed-Tech will benefit from this donation each semester, according to Auto Mechanics Instructor Anthony Hoskins. “And we’ll try to keep it in one piece as long as possible,” he joked. “It’ll really help these kids know what they’re getting into after graduation.”
